%X Currently issues related to environmental disasters in Brazil resulting from rapid urban development and for lack of planning have been occurring more and more frequently and with great damage to the population. The great growth of cities without proper environmental planning generates significant losses for the whole society, such as lack of proper sewage treatment, releasing their wastewater in rainwater sewage systems seeping into rivers, frequent flooding due to increased waterproofing, occupation of riverine bed, plumbing and waterproofing of urban rivers. Brazilian cities already suffer from these environmental problems, and in order to effect the importance in the grip of public policies which help in such matters comes the need to assess the use and occupation of land in the sub-basin of the Paiol the water stream in the municipality of Araraquara-SP, and human actions that influenced the change in the sub-basin and through this evaluation raise environmental problems in the region to develop possible action plans to control, correct and prevent environmental problems in the area of the sub-basin.
